KNOWING YOUR HISTORY (Season 1)
In Awkunanaw, we have a history, and most of the work we do at AV is centered on an in depth research and development of our culture, tradition and history. Working constantly to improve on the history of the core Awkunanaw man is important, so that our cultures and traditions will not be shrouded in the sands of time. The sands of time being apparent in the current explosion of knowledge through the internet, the volatile social revolution of the present time. All these can conspire to bury the real truth of our history. Hence the subsequent generations may suffer for the want of this knowledge. Sometimes, and with some people, the truth is bitter or painful. But it still remains what it is...the truth nevertheless.
I would like us to continue to use this forum in bearing our minds on the most sensitive issues that has greatly divided and barred development as it were in Awkunanaw.
Overtime, on this forum we have taken the patience to trace our history, the genealogy of the Awkunanaw people right from Ntuegbe. But in researching this, certain stones has greatly barred our progress. If we fail to define the foundations of these stones, if we fail to define these fundamental structures that project the Awkunanaw people, illustrating their strength and weaknesses as a people, in time, even the name, Awkunanaw will be exterminated.
In course of our research, what is still left undefined in the basic structure of Awkunanaw genealogy can be stated as follows:
Tracing our genealogy to Ntuegbenese, we discovered that Akegbe ogwugwueze(Awkunanaw) was one of the five sons and patriarchs that made up Ntuegbenese.
Akegbe Ogwugwueze(Awkunanaw) was the progenitor of Obuoffia, Akegbe, Odu and Umah(Amechi and Obeagu).
Umueze was traced to Amodu on crystal clear anecdote. As nwada Amodu, who was driven out with her offsprings from ihunakwagu in Akpugo during a civil crisis. This prompted the father, Amodu to accommodate his daughter in their present location till date.
This logical explanations were rendered through oral history, but the case was not same as with Akwuke and Ugwuaji.
Our sources revealed that Akwuke is connected to Akegbe Ugwu in a way and that Ugwuaji also is connected to Amechi and Obeagu respectively.
All efforts to put the stones of Akwuke and Ugwuaji in the genealogy of Awkunanaw has remained elusive. Why ?
So my question is who are these people?
Who or what are the names of the progenitors of Akwuke and Ugwuaji as it relates to the available Awkunanaw genealogy? Please let's work together and constructively to tie this elusive knot. Your comments:
