CHINYEAKA OHAA: AWKUNANAW WELCOMES A PROFILE OF FLAMBOYANCE  IN SERVICE.

Awkunanaw  is part of Ntuegbenese  or Ntuegbe,a confederation of five groups that traces their fatherhood  to the ancestor, Ajaka Uba and the towns live close to each other along the Awgu - Enugu old road,starting at Ogugu and ending at Enugu except Ozalla,a non-Ntuegbe town which lives between Agbogugu and Akegbe Ugwu.Awkunanaw has become a relationship all along among the individuals that are characterized by a high degree of personal intimacy, of social cohesion or moral commitment and a continuity in time.The cultural elements are inter-related,constituting a complex whole; transmitted or historically derived and are made or created whether concrete or abstract  - beliefs or superstitions. Awkunanaw was originally made up of four (oku ano), namely Akegbe Ugwu, Obuoffia, Amodu and Uma but increased to five with the split of Amechi and Obeagu(Uma) and further increased to six with the addition of Umueze ( son of a daughter  married  to Ihunekwuagu Akpugo) and still further multiplied to eight with the creation of Ugwuaji and Akwuke in 1928 and 1936 respectively and now broken into twenty one autonomous communities spread in Enugu South and Nkanu West LGAs of Enugu State.
Awkunanaw is a basin of  partly non- fertile land facing the Udi ranges until into Enugu. If one drives from the North out of the mountain ranges of Nsukka, Udi and 9th Mile,Awkunanaw remains the coolest, greenest land in the imagination of God.Within her are the Nyama and Atavu streams whose whitish sandy water play in the eyes against the green vegetation petched on her nymph hills.The air here is dense with the scent of mahogany and mango.This is Awkunanaw, a member of Ntuegbenese ,where Chinyeaka Ohaa hails from.This is the abode of Enugu's Odalije (succulent nuts of the palm head dropping for all passers-by to pick).
This is the man the entire Awkunanaw clan of twenty one communities are holding one of their biggest receptions ever for on the 14th of August, 2021 at their recreational hall otherwise referred to as Awkunanaw Civic Centre located at Akpasha.His Excellecies Senators Jim Nwobodo and Ken Nnamani and many others had enjoyed this kind of popular rallyings and honours in the past due to their accomplishments and services to the clan.So this particular event of Saturday will take the people down the memory lane and refresh the minds of the people and possibly may be another pouring of libations for the raining water to  "collect into our own buckets " as has become a popular Awkunanaw saying.Chinyeaka's civil service journey has in itself constituted a new prodigious era in Awkunanaw advance and has touched the people so as to prepare for this massive celebration and honour as he retires as their first Federal Permanent Secretary.Being both rural and cosmopolitan has made his rural- background thoroughly enriching and empowering. It has taught him respect for nature and the best way to relate to it.He is basically decent and flings about a developed communal spirit that has translated into an outstanding philanthropy. This may have accounted to his being chosen by his people to become their Welfare  Association President at the retirement and subsequent death of Ochendo Chiji Agbo and he has lived up to the challenges associated with the management of human feelings, values and has recognized human beings as the centre of this life.His emergence in the leadership of Awkunanaw has brought about towering and enduring legacies since he has motivated many of his kinsmen into homecoming and relationship. The people now witness Foundations taking care of widows and old people,bursary awards to indigent students, academic scholarships ,payment of hospital and medical bills for the less-privileged, constructions and asphalting of roads ,Federal and State Government presence in most nooks and crannies of Awkunanaw,huge assistances and Foundations to churches, town halls,homes for many  indigent people and sponsorship of the prestigious and popular Awkunanaw Unity Cup,an instrument of peace.Many Awkunanaw people have achieved livelihood and peace through Chinyeaka's gifts of commercial vehicles, bikes,KEKE NAPEPE,etc.The Awkunanaw Peace and Reconciliation Committee is maintained mainly by him and the Ntuegbenese Cup,a football fiesta involving the towns of Ogugu,Owelli,Ihe,Agbogugu and Awkunanaw, enjoys  Chinyeaka's blessings. Today, Awkunanaw has a giant dome of a Civic Centre   mounted on the hills of  Akpasha.Many Awkunanaw children and beyond have been comfortably employed in the civil service from Enugu through Lagos to Abuja by the efforts of one man Enugu people call Odalije.And it is on record  that no Awkunanaw man has ever paid any levy in support of any activity or project since Chinyeaka Ohaa's regime as President of Awkunanaw Welfare Association has a wonderful pattern of followership, inspiration and motivation to  God's works. His leadership style is well with the people. Many in Awkunanaw, Enugu and beyond have become accomplished business moguls,captains of industry and well established civil servants courtesy of the man majority of Nkanu people call Emeru Madu  Emeru Maa (the Benefactor of the seen and the unseen).
Born Chinyeaka Christian Ohaa at the time of famine in the land of Awkunanaw,the inspirational prayer of his mother, "Chi nye aka" ( Let God help) was answered since the delivery was eventually without hitch and his arrival brought success and plenty in the home.The appreciation of that answered prayer and its attendant celebration till date really dwarf his  baptismal name,Christian. Since childhood, he has shown great zeal for christianity and its practice.He began as a member of the Christian Union,S.U in the 70s. This  helps and manifests in the way he accommodates feuding behaviours which are common among people with  fragile personalities in his immediate communities and work environment. These people who feel invalidated easily at the slightest infraction and react with rage come across often.Christianity has taught Odalije the pursuance of a society and humane living that emphasizes accommodation. Chinyeaka's deep trust and reverence for God,no doubt,represent the key dynamics for his flourishing.
As Governor of Enugu State and Emereoha of Awkunanaw, His Excellency Dr Lawrence Ugwuanyi steps into Awkunanaw on 14th August as the Special Guest of Honour in an Occasion the first of Governor of the old Anambra State,H.E Senator Jim Nwobodo, will be the Father of the Day and Owa Ndigbo and former Senate President, H.E Senator Dr Ken Nnamani the  Chairman of the ocassion,to welcome home an illustrious Awkunanaw son from Abuja,it can be rightly said that Chinyeaka Ohaa has left a profile of civil service flamboyance in all the States,offices and departments he has been to,and that only his leadership style can easily assemble together all the men and women that make Enugu thrive in a peaceful Akpasha Awkunanaw environment. They will celebrate love,philanthropy, humility and relationships -  the real attributes for which Chinyeaka Ohaa are known.

Ten years on and it looks as if it was just yesterday. The memories about him remain evergreen because he lives in the hearts that he touched. And they are many! Neither a star nor comet heralded his birth on March 19, 1942 but the then rusty Amechi, Awkunanaw community in today’s Enugu State had the presence of mind to recognize that a child who would later shine brighter than star had been born. And 10 years ago when he joined the saints, beyond Awkunanaw, the world was aware that that a star had dimed but not his name, not his good deeds while on earth.
